Going back to school is uppermost in our mind this time of year, and we all know our kids have the hardest time expressing it. Sometimes reading to them, then discussing the story, is a great way to help your child open and about their anxiety.

Vicki at Babies to Bookworms has created a phenomenal list of 60 BOOKS that have stories about returning to school. She calls it The Big List of Back to School Books. All the books are great for read aloud fun and are geared towards elementary aged children. They include some of our old favorites like Curious George and Elmo and some fabulous stories about teachers gone awry or teachers making an extra effort to help students in school.

School transitions can be tricky, but if we help our kids know what to expect, it can make a huge difference. Stories also help keep the dialog open so those first few weeks there is a point of reference that can be used to check in on feelings. I would grab some of these great stories if your child is a bit worried that school is going to be overwhelming.
